This handout includes 50 fill in the blank style questions practicing reflexive verbs. Students are expected to fill in the correct form of the indicated verb in either the present, preterite, or infinitive form according to the context. Included is a page of “Points to Consider” which directs students to: look for various expressions to clarify the timing of events; correctly manipulate the pronouns left on the end of the infinitives, and adhere to stem change rules in the preterite. A grid of all reflexive verbs and their meanings is included.
This exercise is appropriate for students who have already practiced reflexive verbs and are now ready to discern the timing of events by context and learn a handful of verbs not presented in ¡Así se dice! 2. My students have suggested doing the first 25, checking, and then completing the activity.
I have the students complete the work in class when I’m available to answer questions and then use the projector to show the answers. As we go through them I have students translate the sentences. To spice things up a bit I’ll designate the first student who volunteers to translate as the “nominator.” He/She will randomly choose students to translate the next sentence.
An answer key is included.
