Description

This mentor text lesson for Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen is designed to make the task easier! Real-life color photos that align to the story illustrations and setting, along with thought-provoking discussion prompts will get your students thinking, talking, and writing responses to the story.

  • Picture Prompts to use before reading Extra Yarn to help students make story predictions and connections.

  • Photo Samples of Thinking Charts you can create using chart paper or a dry erase board to help students map their schema or background knowledge of the topic and gather ideas about the story theme.

  • Discussion Cards and Writing Prompts to use after reading the story to help students reflect and write about character traits story theme.
