This fun project encourages students to become budding entrepreneurs and persuasive presenters, while also diving into science curriculum about extreme environments.
Over one or two weeks, students choose an extreme environment, learn about it, and design a new piece of technology to help make exploration in that location easier.
➢ Take notes about an extreme environment and the supplies currently used to explore it
➢ Explain their invention, the materials used to make it, and what problem it solves for explorers
➢ Draw a detailed and labeled diagram of their invention
➢ Plan a persuasive presentation to share their creation with the class: including a speech and some sort of visual (PowerPoint, model, poster, or pamphlet)
➢ Watch the “Shark Tank” presentations of their classmates and vote on their favourite one
This project could be completed individually, in pairs, or small groups.
Extreme environments can include: deserts, space, the Arctic, caves, volcanoes, and the deep sea.
All the graphic organizers and the voting slips are included.
