This is a great way to show students the relationship between letters, phonics and words. It's also really hands on and students love creating things that jump off the page!
As a warm up, brainstorm words that begin with the sound /f/. If 'fire' has not come up, insert it into the brainstorm.
To begin the main activity, students cut out the upper case 'F' and paste it in the middle of a colored piece of paper.
Students then cut out the 'logs'. Once cut out, paste then lengthwise to create a 3-D log effect. glue these underneath the 'F'.
Lastly, cut and paste the flames above the 'F' in the center. Students can have fun coloring and decorating the 'F' if they finish early.
