This FALL THEMED Place Value Unit has a variety of hands on activities that can be used in SO many ways! I use it with my 3rd grade class when starting place value, but it could easily be used at other grades. It focuses on ones, tens, and hundreds place.
It uses a variety of manipulatives:
Base 10 Blocks
Cards (included in the product)
These would be GREAT for work stations or centers and can be easily differentiated for different levels.
The following activities are included in this product:
PLACE VALUE TASK CARDS
20 task cards + student answer sheet
Each card has a number and a question asking which number is in the _________ place. Students record their answers on the answer sheet provided. Can be used as a Scoot, Gallery Walk, Center... HOWEVER YOU WANT!
ROLL IT, MAKE IT, EXPAND IT
This is a fun game where students get to play with dice AND base 10 blocks! (That always makes my students excited!)
Students roll the dice to create 3 digit numbers, then make the number with base 10 blocks, then write the number in expanded form. STUDENT ANSWER RECORDING SHEET INCLUDED!
ACORN PLACE VALUE MATCHING
Students match the top and bottoms of acorns. The top has a number (up to 3 digits) and the bottom has the place value words (EX: 2 in the hundreds place, 3 in the tens place, 5 in the ones place). Students match the number with the words to put the acorns back together. GREAT CENTER ACTIVITY! STUDENT ANSWER RECORDING SHEET INCLUDED!
PLACE VALUE PUZZLES
Include 10 4-piece puzzles.
Each puzzle has a number, expanded form, base 10 blocks, and the place value described in words (4 hundreds, 2 tens, 8 ones).
Students build the puzzles. A chart is included for them to RECORD THEIR ANSWERS!
PLACE VALUE CARD GAME
Students draw 3 cards and place them on their place value chart (included) in the order that makes the biggest number. To change it up, they can make the smallest number!
