Product Description
Resources in this activity are now FULLY EDITABLE!

This activity aims to give students an understanding of the impact that 'fast fashion' (mass production of cheap, on-trend, clothing) has on our environment.
This activity could be used to support a classroom viewing of Episode 3 of the ABC (Australia) documentary ‘War on Waste’ which features a segment on fast fashion.

There are 3 components to this activity:

-Fast Fashion fact sheet: Students are presented with a fact sheet that outlines how fast fashion is resulting in huge amounts of clothing/waste being disposed of and ending up in landfill.

-Take home survey: Students complete a survey which acts as a closet/wardrobe inventory. Each student returns their survey to the teacher so that the data can be collated and results for the class can be generated.*

-Follow up questions: Students examine the class data from the survey and respond to a series of questions.

*For students working remotely or in a homeschooling environment, an alternative may be to have fellow students within a learning network/extended family/friends participate in the survey in order to gather data.

Included resources/documents:
1 x Fast Fashion fact sheet
1 x Take home closet inventory survey (with results table)
1 x Worksheet of post-survey follow up questions
1 x Teaching guide

Time allowance:
This activity is designed to take between 2-4 lessons. This will be dependent on the age of your students and how long you dedicate to the individual components of the activity (e.g. reading/discussing the fact sheet, class discussions following the survey etc). A lesson is assumed to be 50 minutes long.
