This lesson starts with the establishment of research labs which fuse science and technology for the first time in history. This triggers a virtual explosion of new inventions that continues to rapidly accellerate today. The lesson then looks at categories of different inventions (transportation, communications, medicine, architecture, etc.) that transformed civilization and the planet practically overnight. A separate flowchart within the PowerPoint traces the emergence of modern surgery.
In the PowerPoint, the color flowchart develops slide by slide while other notes for the students scroll down the side. There are also extensive photos with captions mixed in to illustrate the lesson and capture students’ interest. This packet also contains a student reading, flowchart, and the author’s own research notes with lots of details and interesting trivia.
