Product Description
The Fairfax County Public School System in Virginia has new PLANNING and PACING guides for the 2017 - 2018 school year. The first unit in language arts is titled, "Building a Community of Readers and Writers". I have developed my reading lesson power point presentations using the NEW planning and pacing guide for 5th grade and Virginia ELA SOLs, but I think the lesson could be adapted for 4th and 6th grades.

This lesson teaches TEXT CODING using sticky notes to mark understandings, questions, surprises, important information, key words and details, and unknown words. The lesson includes learning targets, an objective, and modeling of text coding. Teachers can use books of their choice to model where/how often to stop and how to use the sticky notes to code the text.

In this lesson, students will use different symbols and sticky notes to code their texts as they read. The presentation is for one teacher and his/her students.
