The Fairfax County Public School System in Virginia has new PLANNING and PACING guides for the 2017 - 2018 school year. The first unit in language arts is titled, "Building a Community of Readers and Writers". I have developed my writing lesson power point presentations using the NEW planning and pacing guide for 5th grade and Virginia ELA SOLs, but I think the lesson could be adapted for 4th and 6th grades.

This lesson is one that is not included in the planning and pacing guide, but one that I thought was essential. Students DRAFT and REVISE one piece. The lesson includes learning targets, an objective, and feedback stems for students to use when engaged in feedback loops on Google Classroom.

In this lesson, students will type their drafts on Google Classroom without worrying about spelling, mechanics, or conventions. The presentation is for one teacher and his/her students.
