FICTSLAM is an analysis tool to assist students in the process of breaking down the elements of a fictional or non-fiction narrative. We developed this method and graphic organizer to guide our students while reading short texts, such as fictional stories, personal narratives, and parables. This assignment ensures that students are engaged and pulling as much meaning from the text as possible by incorporating eight different areas for analysis. This method is used to analyze literature much in the same way that TPCASTT is used to analyze poetry and OPTIC is used to analyze visual texts.
