FIDDS is a graphic organizer similar to SoapStone. I heard about the acronym but couldn't find a template or explanation for it. I ended up having to make one. FIDDS stands for figurative language, imagery, diction, details, and syntax. I have only used this organizer for The Great Gatsby. I tell the students to pick a chapter and complete the template using only information from that chapter. I introduce this in second semester with my juniors that way I've had time to go over the above as a foundation. This is an in-class activity, and it is a bit challenging. I recommend teachers use this with Gatsby. If using it with a different book or story, I recommend teachers make sure figurative language and imagery are present AND meaningful.
