The fifth grade measurement unit contains a study sheet and test for MD 1 (measurement conversions). The study sheet and test have rigor and an extended response-both of which are needed for your state assessment. The unit also includes answer keys for each document.
Assessments include higher order questions (multiple choice, fill in the blank, and short answer), written responses, drawing of models, and use of algorithms to explain and/or justify student answers.
I give the study sheet a few days before the unit test. This gives students time to complete it as part of classwork or homework. Then, we go over the study guide to make sure all students understand how to complete each question. The unit test is similar to the study guide but with different numbers in the questions.
This comprehensive unit is an effective tool in assessing students’ abilities related to MD1 (measurement conversions) while also preparing them for the Georgia Milestone Assessment.
There are 6 working pages in this unit. The study guide is 3 pages long as is the test. Each has questions about the standard being tested and an extended constructed response where the students have to not only answer but also justify with pictures and/or words their responses.
Answer keys are provided for the entire unit.
