The fifth grade NBT unit contains two different versions of a study sheets and test for NBT 5 (multiplication). Each study sheet and test has rigor and a spiral review, and one version also contains an extended response-all that are needed for your state assessment. The unit also includes answer keys for each document.
Assessments include higher order questions (multiple choice, fill in the blank, and short answer), written responses, drawing of models, and use of algorithms to explain and/or justify student answers.
I give the study sheet a few days before the unit test. This gives students time to complete it as part of classwork or homework. Then, we go over the study guide to make sure all students understand how to complete each question. The unit test is similar to the study guide but with different numbers in the questions.
On the spiral review, I’ve included skills most commonly missed on prior assessments. Including the spiral review in each assessment allows students to work toward mastery of skills they have not already grasped and to keep skills fresh in students’ minds. This comprehensive unit provides much, if not all, that is needed to effectively teach the NBT 5 standard.
There are 10 working pages in this unit. There are two versions of comprehensive study guides and two versions of comprehensive tests. One study sheet/test is 2 pages each and the other is 3 pages each. Each has questions about the standard being tested and a spiral review, and one also includes an extended constructed response where the students have to not only answer but also justify with pictures and/or words their responses.
Answer keys are provided for the entire unit.
