PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Are you looking for an engaging way to help students blend the final consonant sounds in words? This set of six literacy centers is useful for small groups, centers, and intervention. Emergent readers will “Crack The Code” to spell CVCC words, match pictures to words, write the words, and more!

The reading foundational skills addressed with these activities are designed to develop
• Phonemic awareness
• Phonic skills
• Reading and writing of CVCC words with final consonant blends, all with engaging illustrations to support the emerging reading and writing process

There are 6 center activities in this set, designed to be used over the course of a week, or longer if needed.

20 CRACK THE CODE CARDS
Each Task Card contains 4 pictures. The child says the name of each picture, and then finds the letter that corresponds to that sound. When all 4 letters are on the Task Card, the child blends the letter sounds and discovers a new word! He or she will then write that word on their recording sheet.

20 WORD AND PICTURE MATCH CARDS
Using the words that were “discovered” through the Task Cards, the child will match the word to its picture. This serves as a good assessment for the reading of words with comprehension, as indicated by the correct word/picture match. (A Teacher Assessment Form is also included.)

20 POCKET CHART CARDS
The picture cards are placed into a pocket chart, and the individual letters are placed next to them to spell the word. This can be done whole group or independently.

5 “I CAN SPELL IT” ACTIVITY WORKSHEETS
The child cuts the letters apart on the activity worksheet, and glues them next to the picture to spell the word. This could be used as a center, or as a teacher assessment for documenting phonics progress. There are 5 different activity sheets in this set.

20 CLIP CARDS
Each card has an illustration and 3 word choices. The child clips a clothespin on the word that names the picture.

20 WRITE THE ROOM CARDS
The picture cards are posted around the room. As the child finds the card, they write the name of the picture on their recording sheet. You could also make another copy of these picture cards, laminate them, and have the children write the words directly on the cards with a dry erase marker for an ADDITIONAL center.

This is such a great way to help children make that link between Phonemic Awareness and Phonics even stronger!
