Example of students playing first to 100
We played "First to 100" to practice subitizing skills, counting, and working in teams the first week-month of school.
We also played "First to 0" starting at 100 and writing backwards.
Throughout the year there are many other ways we play this game.
The bonding sheet helps the students avoid errors. When they get to the tenth square, there will always be a friendly number of ten.
When we play first to 1 whole the students are writing decimals. The bonding sheet will help them see/understand when they write .10 or ten hundredths-ten hundredths equals 1 tenth. When they get to 100 hundredths they will see/understand 100 hundredths equals 1 whole. I would also ask questions after this activity to check their understanding.
*A couple of errors to notice-
They had to be reminded to add and say the sum of the two dice. (When they say the number, they are practicing subitizing).
