Hello and thank you for stopping by Twin Speech. In this download, you will find 20 coloring pages that help children to learn 20 carefully chosen "first words." These coloring pages are a fun and teachable way to practice functional words needed for children to communicate with others.
While the child colors, the SLP and/or teacher can be mentioning and showing the child how to perform the American Sign Language signed word targeted on the coloring page. The initial phonemic sound cue is also provided for the targeted sign, so that if the child is ready to try to say the first sound in the word, they can try saying it too!
They will get to practice the first sound that the word makes after looking at the speech sound models, practice real sign language and the sign for the targeted word after seeing a child in a real picture signing the word, and they will get to see a targeted word shown in a picture that they get to color.
For a closer look of the pages, please check out the preview. Again, here are some benefits of these coloring pages:
A) First sound/letter of the word in American Sign is provided on each page.
B) Visual and written cues of the first sound of each word are provided.
C) Illustrated and detailed description on how to produce the sign of each word is written next to the sign.
D) A cute black-lined picture showing the sign in action is provided to keep the young child busy while listening and learning.
And here are the functional word targeted:
More, Want, Help and Eat
Cookie, Cheese, Milk and Banana
Daddy, Mommy, Cat and Dog
Ball, Bubble, Play and Book
In, On, Off and Down
