Reading Response activity gives your students practice locating evidence in their independent nonfiction reading.
Your students will love the chance to read these colorful, informative nonfiction texts. Collect all four and look for more as they’re released.
As students read each text, they complete the reading record sheet for this series and a reading response page.
Targeted for early to mid 2nd grade, these Read-and-Respond pages can also be used with selected groups of readers in 1st, 3rd and 4th.
2 one-page (front and back) response sheets for each of 4 books.
(8 response sheets, 16 pages)
Each response sheet is one page containing 5 questions and 5 citations (10 answers total.)
The second response sheet for each book is offered as a small-group reteach activity, for students who want to read a book twice and get credit for each reading, or extra credit for those who enjoy reading nonfiction and citing evidence.
One reading record sheet to record the books read and student response scores is also included.
Answer pages include 8 keys ( 16 pages front & back.)
5 pages of Common Core Standards for Reading Informational Text, grades 2-5 included.
The difficulty level of the questions and responses is moderately easy. The majority are simple search and find literal answers. Most are restated using the exact same language as the text, with a few questions designed to stretch readers to the next level. These require readers to notice illustrations to help infer the answer.
Provide accountability in your supported independent reading time! Students will read independently, then respond to what they read.
Each answer must be supported with a page number citation! You will know your students are reading.
