As we work with many visual learners I developed these "visual motivators" to help stimulate and enthuse the children.
We normally discuss the picture and associated vocabulary and then build up a list of extra words that may be needed.
Next we discuss the parts of a narrative and encourage the children to brainstorm or mind-map their story.
Finally they write the story and then share, proof-read and edit.
We have had excellent results with this simple but effective procedure!
