Product Description

The SOUND NK set of FOCUSED PHONICS for FIRST develops your students' literacy skills as it sharpens their ability to decode NK spelling words, sight words and other grade-specific vocabulary.

The NK (ending blend) words included in this set: bank, drank, plank, pink, shrink, think, honk, bunk, junk, skunk

Activities included in this set:

THE SOUND NK WORD LIST The words your students will master in this set are included on the word list. They can color, or write-in, the whole word or target NK-SOUND for each word.

SPELLING SOUNDS a guided writing, or phoneme spelling sheet--use this to help your struggling spellers hear and write each sound

WRITE the ROOM Place the 10 picture cards around your school room (or in a tub at a table) for your students to find. Provide your students with a clipboard and response sheet. They will record each word on the response sheet.

WHAT DID YOU SEE? A memory exercise following the Write the Room activity. Your students will color all of the words they read on the picture cards.

FINISH the SENTENCE This activity can be completed by memory, or with the picture cards as a second Write the Room. Your students will read the decodable sentences and write the missing word (identified by the picture at the beginning of each sentence) in the blank. Have them read the sentences back to you when they are done.

ABC ORDER Cut and sort the words in alphabet order and write (or glue) them in the blanks provided.

THE SOUND NK PUZZLER Complete the crossword puzzle writing the picture-prompted words in the blanks.

WRITE & DRAW or WRITE & MATCH Read the sentences aloud as your students record them on the response sheet. They can either draw a picture to go with each sentence, or match the picture to the sentence. This is a wonderful assessment activity for listening, spelling and basic sentence structure.

CORRECT SPELLING STRIP Have your students correct their misspelled words on this blank word list. Or use it as a spelling test strip.
