PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

In fictional literature, a foil is a character who directly contrasts the traits or qualities of another character. In most cases, the foil contrasts the main character, also called the protagonist.

Sometimes, a foil can refer to a subplot which is used to foil the main plot.

Here is a great classroom poster graphic organizer to visually explain this concept.

Examples from Romeo & Juliet:
→ Romeo vs. Mercutio
→ Tybalt vs. Benvolio
