This forest math center, GONE FISHIN’
provides fun practice with addition and subtraction within 20. The task is to sort the fish equation cards with the help of six work mats. The mats work for both addition and subtraction. 310 equation cards are provided; 117 are addition facts, 186 are subtraction, 7 are blank. The addition cards are aqua and face right. Subtraction cards are green and face left. These differences will help you sort the cards when setting up the center. Depending on the age and stage of your students, you choose how many fish cards and the degree of difficulty your students will sort.
This is a recurring math center. You can bring it back throughout the year as your students' skills advance. Differentiation is inherent as you have such a wealth of math facts with which to work. Better yet, the students will be unable to readily identify groups working at a different level.
