Unit Test Study Guide
Multiple Choice Unit Test
I have created this unit to be fun, engaging, challenging, and meaningful. Challenge students with leveled practice, have fun with engaging activities, make the flow of instruction easy with guided "gradual release" notes, reinforce concepts with homework and checkpoints, and keep concepts fresh with spiral review on each warm up, covering topics previously learned in the unit. Below is a description of each item:
Guided notes - I have tailored these guided notes to focus on the "I do, we do, you do" model. This allows students to see an example worked out by the teacher, have the opportunity to work with their peers on practice problems, and show their mastery by doing independent work! I tried to keep the notes as short as possible, so students have more time to work together or independently on the practice.
Warm ups - Each warm up has a section "skills needed today" to review any important skills needed for that concept, so students get an idea of what they'll need to know for that day. Furthermore, keep concepts in the unit fresh with the "spiral review" section. This allows students to keep concepts learned in the unit in the forefront of their mind which leads to better retention and better scores on the unit test.
Leveled Practice - When practicing concepts, I realized students were at such varying levels of ability. By breaking it down into "levels" of difficulty, teachers are able to see which students need more help on the "level 1" material, and which are able to move ahead. If a student masters level 1 and level 2, they can be challenged with level 3 problems! This allows teachers to focus on students who need help, while allowing other students to move on and be challenged.
Checkpoints - Frequently throughout the unit, these "Checkpoints" serve as a formative assessment of student skills and allows students and teachers to check their mastery of each topic before the large unit test. Use these as study guides to reference back to for the unit test!
Homework - I tried to keep homework short, as more students will feel as if they can complete the homework in a timely manner and not be overwhelmed by the number of problems, leading to more homework completed as a whole. This also allows for easy and fast grading by teachers. Each homework is a quick snapshot of student mastery of the core concept and another opportunity for feedback.
Unit Test - The 30 question unit test is designed with 2 to 4 questions from each topic, to allow for an overall idea of mastery of the entire unit. The test is multiple choice, to allow for easier grading by teachers and an ease of stress for students.
