My class and I love to use these for the holidays, and it’s a great center activity or “filler” between assignments and holiday activities. These are easy to just print and provide, or use the venn diagrams and chart to do a little fun research and compare countries traditions or cultural, religious, and personal traditions. If you don’t see a holiday you’d like, just let me know and I’ll add it for you.
The holidays included are:
Happy New Year
These can be used for simple acrostics with simple words or phrases relating to the holiday. I use them after comparing and charting personal, religious (if any), and cultural traditions as well as learning new vocabulary. Then they are able to write well-developed, meaningful poems.
Then comes the decorating! I’ve used open letters that can be decorated as well as large margins to design. For example, at Christmas the letters transform into candy canes, reindeer, nutcrackers, etc. At Halloween they become bags, ghosts, candy, and more. For Easter they decorate the letters like Easter eggs. Thanksgiving letters become Native Americans, Pilgrims, and food. Christmas margins show Santa’s sleigh and reindeer flying through the night. New Year’s margins show confetti and streamers, dates, and fire works.
