4 FREE Back to School Team Building Activities!
Where is it?
Help alleviate first day jitters. This team activity allows students to problem solve and get to know their teammates while becoming familiar with the day to day classroom procedures and materials. Students will not know all of the answers, but encourage them to write a logical answer. You may find some excellent alternatives to your normal procedures! Provide one paper per group. You decide how many students will be in each group.
Find an Expert
Students will find and record the names of peers to provide future academic and social assistance. While this helps students get to know each other, it also works great for the “ask 3 before me” procedure while you are working in small groups. Each student records their own paper, so they can refer to it throughout the year. The last box was intentionally left blank. Use this to write your own, or allow students to chose something they need.
Textbook Scavenger Hunt
This is a team activity which promotes cooperation, reviews text features, and familiarizes students with any informational textbook. Students will decide how to work together to complete their handout. Perhaps one student will record the answers, or each student will record an answer when they find it, or maybe they will each take a certain number of questions. Let them decide. Provide one paper per group. You decide how many students per group.
This is the perfect activity for understanding the importance of following directions! The directions clearly tell students to read every question before they begin -but we know they will not! The last questions tell students not to do the worksheet and not to explain their actions to others. Those who do not follow the directions will introduce themselves to specific students and do a variety of physical and social tasks. Provide one page per student.
