Looking for a fun activity to do with students after your winter break in the new year? I created this FREE guessing game for you! Most students look forward to coming back to school after the holidays so they can talk to their friends. Sometimes it's hard to get them to focus on work when they would rather chat about what they got for Christmas/Hanukkah and what they did. That's why I play this game with students as soon as we come back to school in January after New Year's.
There are 5 blanks on the sheet. Students get to write down 1 thing they got, 1 place they went, 1 activity they did, 1 favorite food they ate, and 1 person they saw over the winter break. It's so simple; even students who struggle with writing can write down one word answers. Fill one out yourself and save it for last. The kids will love that you played along!
Just copy the mystery game sheets, cut apart, and handout to students. They'll fill them out and return them to you in just minutes WITHOUT SAYING A WORD!!! Why? Because they LOVE playing games, and the only rule is that they can't tell each other what they're writing. When you have collected the slips, shuffle them and read one at a time. I let 3 different students guess who wrote the sheet before revealing the actual student's name. Suspense builds, kids hang on your every word... and it only takes about 20 minutes to do, from start to finish. This is a quick, fun way to let students tell about their holiday vacation without disrupting the learning process. Once you're done with the game, then you can get on with the business of teaching. Enjoy!!
