"How much greater is the 6 in the thousands place than the 6 in the tens place in 76,462?" I don't know about you guys but my students have really struggled with these types of questions since our adoption of Common Core.
This lesson is designed to help kids through this understanding of place value. The idea that each digit of a base ten number is 10 times greater than the digit to it's right is one of the fundamental understandings of elementary math. It sets kids up for success with decimals and for scientific notation further down the road.
1) How much greater is the 6 in the thousands place than the 6 in the tens place in 76,462?
