The included practice word (7) pages may be used as a supplement to the Edmark Reading program. They are similar to the format contained in the “word recognition” workbooks but with the following differences:
-Some words are bold, for the purpose of creating breaks
-More phrases are included
-There are fewer nonsense words
-Words often capitalized in reading are often capitalized in these practice pages
-Core vocabulary words are included more frequently
I have found the Edmark reading program to be an easy way to introduce words to kids that benefit from a simple and personal approach. From time to time however, I have students that cannot retain the what they have learned, even when we repeat the lessons. Based on this, I made supplemental word recognition pages that emphasize the ‘hard-to-get words.’ As a result, my students have progressed.
New materials for Edmark are few and far between. It’s a dated program, with words like “telephone” instead of “phone,” and some pictures from the original look like they’re straight out of the 70s. When I could not find the right supplements from others, I decided to create what I needed. After creating the pages, I thought others might also be interested in them.
