More Global History Regents Review Resources

This is a comprehensive Global History Regents Review bundle that is designed to help prepare students for all aspects of the New York State Global History Regents exam including the multiple choice, thematic and document based essay. Great for regents prep. Perfect for students with a variety of ability levels including high achievers, students with disabilities and ESL/ENL students. Included in the bundle is an excellent differentiated visual graphic organizer for key concepts and word associations for the multiple choice, a well organized thematic graphic organizer with great information which aligns to the question stems of the thematic/dbq essays and guided questions as well as an amazing test taking strategy worksheet for both the multiple choice and essay. This bundle is broken up into three chapters and the bundle will include these three separate PDFs.

Chapter 1: Thematic Review Organizer

This is an excellent differentiated comprehensive review packet that includes topics from both Global I and Global II which is organized in a thematic format. Perfect for students with a variety of ability levels including high achievers, students with disabilities and ESL/ENL students.

I used this packet during the last three weeks for regents review and it worked fantastic. The students were engaged and they enjoyed the graphic organizer and tables. They said that it helped break down the material. The way I used this resource in class was two ways. You can assign students in the class a theme for the day. Lets say you guys are working on turning points. All of the students are broken up into groups and they are all working together to answer the questions. Once they are all done, you can foster a discussion based on the students findings. If you have time and if you have been utilizing my vocabulary regents review vocabulary cards, you can have a great opportunity to review vocabulary at the end of the period. I did this and it was really helpful.

Another way you can use this packet is for homework assignments. In some cases, I would assign pages from the packet as homework and we would go over the questions in the class. In addition, students were expected to be studying the context of the information that they had for homework because we were working on thematic and dbq essays each week. As a reference, I always ask my students for feedback on the worksheets I use in class so I can always improve each year. They said that they really liked this review sheet because they felt it helped them retain the information and they felt confident when they were practicing their essays in class. It was nice to see the confidence they had as they were approaching the exam.

Chapter 2: Vocabulary Review Organizer Organizer

This is an excellent vocabulary differentiated review tool to help prepare your students for the multiple choice portion of the New York State Global History Regents Examination. This is perfect for ESL/ENL learners because the worksheet is translated into Spanish as well as students with IEPS because of the visuals, bolded words and enlarged text as well as students of all learning abilities.

This graphic organizer is divided up by 24 boxes on one page. Each box has a topic such as Ancient Civilizations, with an important definition and an important concept bolded as well. Many of the boxes has a visual image as well. A way you can use this in the classroom throughout the school year is having students create index cards and they are responsible for studying certain cards each night. The following day you can have a quiz or you can quiz each student orally for an entire class period to solicit a good review on the topics. To help provide an additional study avenue and to modify and differentiate this review sheet, I also created index cards of each word with enlarged text. Another option is printing each of those index cards out, laminating them and or having students work in groups to categorize them by theme and also study them each night. You can also have students make a vocabulary word ring! This is something my students did! In addition, you can also see my thematic graphic organizer as well which is excellent for thematic and dbq review here.

Global History Regents Review: Thematic graphic organizer/questions

There are many possibilities that can be used with this review sheet. I was successful when I used this worksheet in my class. I would assign students certain index cards to complete and I would check them as homework and also let them know that they would have a quiz on those words either in a written form or an oral quiz. You can choose your method based on your class. These are just some ideas. As your reference, please find the topics that are listed on the review sheet below.

Chapter 3: Test Taking Strategies

Excellent Resource for test taking strategies for the New York State Global History Regents Examination and Social Studies Assessments in the classroom.

The Multiple Choice Strategy is a fun acronym from the song RUDE by magic. This acronym is easy for students to remember as they approach the regents examination. This strategy can be modeled in the front of the classroom. As students become for familiar with the acronym, you can solicit a think aloud with the students and practice sample questions. You can also invite students in the front of the room to practice the strategy in the front of the classroom and the student can walk through their thought process of how they used they strategy.

The New York State Global History Regents has two important essays. The Thematic Essay as well as the Document Based Essay. The worksheet I provide includes visuals to draw students attention to the important key words found in the task and to become familiar as to what the question is asking. In addition, there is another great acronym called ICE in which students can "ICE" the documents. This acronym is helpful for students as they need to be familiar with the important concepts of a DBQ such as the topic sentence, citing evidence, outside information and explaining the document.

As students write essays and read passages, they often are required to discuss the political, social and economic aspects of a particular topic. For example, what were the political and social causes of the French Revolution. In some cases, students forget what political, social and economic mean and as a result, I have a great differentiated graphic organized that provides definitions of each of those terms, visuals and historical examples. Great tool for ESL students as well as students with IEPS. Its a tool that students can refer to throughout the school year as a reference and self monitoring tool as they complete classwork.
