When can I use this?

  • Fact Think Wonder is the perfect Morning Work activity.
  • It's also perfect for a Morning Meeting discussion activity.
  • You can also use this as an ELA warm-up before beginning reading rotations.
  • Alternatively, students can complete this as a Daily 5/Reading Workshop Station

How does this work?

If using for morning work...

Have the PowerPoint slide of the fact and beautiful photograph displayed on your screen as students are walking into your classroom. This will create excitement each morning. Students will be eager to find out what today’s fact of the day is.

Students will trace (optional) and write the fact to practice and improve handwriting. Then students will use the sentence stems to write their thoughts + wonders about the fact.

If using during morning meeting...
Give students time to read the fact or read the fact out loud together. Then give students time to think about the fact and form their thoughts and questions about the fact that they just read. Sentence stems are provided on the slides to help students form complete thoughts and questions.

Then simply begin your class discussion or pair students up and have them share with each other as a Think-Pair-Share partner activity. Students will also learn from hearing one another’s thoughts, which is so so powerful.

But most importantly, this gets kids thinking and asking questions. And that’s the best way to learn and succeed. That’s what teaching is all about—inspiring our students to be life long learners, preparing them for the real world and their wonderful future ahead, allowing them to develop critical thinking skills that are needed to problem solve and succeed in the real world.

What handwriting templates are included?
I've included 5 different versions so that you can differentiate in your classroom and choose the sheet that works best for the students in your class.
