I designed this resource to go along with the sweet story The Gingerbread Man Loose at Christmas by Laura Murray. In the story, the characters spread cheer throughout their community during the holiday season, and I wanted to develop a resource that would help my students to do the same thing within our school.
To make this simple craft, you just need to print out copies of the template for the whole class, give them to your students to decorate, and then attach two candies (Rolos work well) to each gingerbread man on his belly (for his buttons) with the opening of the wrapper facing up. Students could make these gingerbread men for different people in your school community - the administration, administrative assistants, custodians, teachers and more. When you give out the gingerbread men, this product includes printable directions to go along with them so that everyone can enjoy their treat and keep the gingerbread man looking cute too even after the candy is gone.
The best part? I have included a link to the Google Slides file I used to make the template, so you can easily personalize your thank you messages for each person who receives this craft. I did this activity with preschool students, so I typed each teacher's name and a thank you message before printing them. They looked adorable and everyone loved them!
This project was designed to go along with The Gingerbread Man Loose at School, but it could easily accompany any Christmas read aloud or work as a fun stand-alone craft activity.
I hope this helps your students to spread a little holiday cheer this Advent season!
