Product Description

Ready to show students that grammar is not just necessary, but beautiful? Use this multi-purpose activity to collect and examine grammar “in the wild” while reading!

Use any of the three different versions/templates of this activity as:

Diagnostic: pre-assess what concepts students know (and can identify) in writing

Practice: formatively assess if students can identify a concept once you have taught it, OR provide sentences that students must label.

Focus: Look at just one grammar concept at a time (instead of several) and collect several sentence examples of it

Activities: Use this as an individual or group scavenger hunt, sending students to look inside just one book (or many) to find examples of grammatical concepts!

Reference: Pass out my filled-in version and let students refer to it all year long if they need to see what a concept looks like!

This classroom-tested activity can be flexibly used for a variety of the topics in CCSS grammar standards; several for grades 6-12 are already filled in.
