This simple activity is a great addition to both middle school density units and thermal energy (heat) units
. The document includes one page (front only) of a middle school level reading about how less dense, hot air causes hot air balloons to rise due to convection. There is a corresponding HALF PAGE (front + back) worksheet with text-dependent questions. (You can make half the copies you normally would, then cut this in half.) This works well as one station in a day of convection stations, or as a stand-alone homework assignment.
