FREE Two rubrics for editing, assessment and evaluation of I Am Poems. One is a detailed chart with 1-3 point rubrics for five categories of traits (see below and thumbnail). The other form is an informal checklist (see below and thumbnail). The first may be more appropriate for 7-8th and the other for 4-6th, depending on your needs. Both forms are great for self- and peer-editing as well as teacher assessment. Useful for students to keep in a notebook for reference. A simple chart of strong vs weak adjectives and verbs is included for each form to encourage and reinforce descriptive word choice.
The traits covered in the first rubric are Ideas and Content, Organization and Format, Voice, Word Choice and Conventions. A three point assessment makes it easier to assign a score of Excellent, Satisfactory, or Needs Improvement.
The second form, the checklist, uses informal statements such as
Each statement is evaluated with a 3 (star), (2) checkmark, or (1) minus.
The wording is general and can be used for any I Am Poem, but on either form you can circle the descriptors that best apply to your assignment or cross out any that don't apply or you don't want to assess.
