Included you will find both writing menus for primary and intermediate grades. These menus parallel the popular reading CAFE menu (by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser @ www.thedailycafe.com). My teaching partner, Heather, and I LOVED The Sisters' reading instruction and assessment system so much that we developed a reciprocal writing system. :)
Because we teach in Pennsylvania, we modeled our original FOCUS on 5 menu off of PA's 5 Domains of Writing. However, we realize that many teachers use the 6 Traits model, so we also made a VISION for Writing menu that can be used with that system. Both menus have been very carefully designed to meet the requirements of the Common Core Writing Standards.
These menus are scaffolded so that the "easier" or most "essential" skills are located closer to the top. The skills increase in difficulty as you work your way down any of the columns. The purpose of the menu is to differentiate your writing instruction by helping students identify individual writing goals.

I am currently in the process of starting a blog
where I will share more information and resources for our easy-to-implement writing system for elementary classrooms. Right now it's a major work-in-progress. Stay tuned by checking out my TpT Store
