FREE Partial preview of - Ingeniosity: Light Energy is published in a magazine format and designed to support teachers, homeschool parents and parents in several ways. Its design allows it to be either a short unit, an enrichment or extension packet, or a source of general information and hands-on activities.
The issue on light energy presents information explaining what light energy is, what it can do, how humans use it and a short piece on Thomas Edison and how he impacted our use of artificial light and light as it relates to vision and moving pictures (movies). The hands-on activities demonstrate several concepts like light refraction and capturing solar energy. The hands-on activities are designed to be created with minimal purchases by using items which are found in many classrooms and homes.
All of the Ingeniosity magazines are designed to offer information on their title topics and hands-on activities to allow students to more effectively understand concepts taught about the title topics.
Each issue includes logic/thinking puzzles, crossword puzzles focused on the title topic, sudoku puzzles, and a Math Mayhem section that involves math knowledge as well as background information that may need to be researched, depending on the background knowledge possessed by the student. All chosen activities help develop different skills and have been student favorites in my classes.
The zip file comes with two versions of the magazine. One file is in full color and the other is a black and white printer friendly version. The answer sheet is included in the zip file.
Overall, Ingeniosity magazines are designed to teach topics/concepts in a kid-friendly manner. They may be used with students from fourth to eighth grade, depending on the academic abilities of the students.
