This is a great activity for students to complete at the beginning of a unit about plants/minibeasts/insects/bugs etc. Younger students may need help with the writing part but can definitely think of responses to the task.
Place students in pairs. Each pair receives the components of one flower (as show below).
Flower head: Using a think and share process, students decided on one aspect of plants/minibeasts/insects/bugs etc that they may already know. This is written on the flower head.
Stem: The 2 students names are written.
Leaves: The students think of a question/ something they would like to know about minibeasts/insects/bugs etc and writes their question on a leaf each.
The flowers are then coloured in and cut out and used to decorate a garden display. The flowers not only become a gorgeous wall display, but are also a good indication for the teacher as to where the interest of the students lie and the direction to take the unit to keep that interest.
An additional flower has been included if you wish for students to work individually.
