Most students have cell phones and communicate with family, friends, and classmates through text messaging. Just about ALL students are familiar with text messaging. Why not teach and practice the skill of inferencing in such a way that appeals to their interests?! No student will be able to resist these activities - for real! This is such a POWERFUL free resource as it allows the opportunity for students to practice the skill of inferencing using text message conversations. This worksheet requires students to cite evidence to support their answers. Also included is an ANSWER KEY that lists possible valid inferences and relevant details that can be made when answering questions.
In addition, included is an Inference Text Message Worksheet (same text conversation) that includes the text message along with a question box where you can generate your own question and students write it in the box! This allows flexibility and the opportunity for you to write a question based on your students' levels and needs - Whoop Whoop!
This resource is absolutely AMAZING for even struggling readers and lower level students who have a short attention span and/or are unable to keep their focus reading other longer texts.
The text message conversation and topic are age appropriate, HIGHLY relevant, familiar, and FUN! Students will easily identify with some of the "people" engaging in these text conversations. It would be interesting to see what students can infer and how they will respond to such conversations.
The graphics in the "visually pleasing" worksheets clearly resemble cell phones that students use today. They even include real text bubbles and emojies! - WORD!!
Students will be able to make inferences about people's personality traits, situations, problems, feelings, and "back stories." The questions are unique to the text message conversations and are not the same/standard.
You can use these Inference Text Message Conversation Worksheets during a Mini Lesson, Guided Practice, Independent Work, as a Pair or Groupwork activity, small groups (to review the inferencing skill), and even for homework or practice!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE rate this resource and write a review. ;-)
