Encourages free reading, exposes students to new books, plus it's easy on your workload! Great for start of school or a new semester after the winter break . Program for your at-home reading requirement with a genre chart that features both fiction categories and non-fiction with Dewey system numbers (with brief explanation); three parent signature forms for you to choose; and a fun book share idea for small group 'sales pitches.' Flexible for a one-time assignment, quarterly or semester requirement, or year-long program.
* Genre chart in a bingo-card format with 18 categories to encourage students to explore different types of fiction (mystery, adventure, historical, etc.) and non-fiction classifications. Makes a great mini-lesson on genre and the Dewey System. Includes categories for Honor/Classic books and the 900s (History/Geography) plus Biography (921). You can require that students read different categories if you wish.
* Three parent/student signature forms for you to choose from, verifying completion of the book and that the book was an appropriate level. One form requires a BRIEF parent/student book talk and another provides space for a brief student response, with quality verified by the parent. Holds students accountable without grading extra book reports. You simply check off completion.
* Book Share idea is also included. Students present in small groups and rotate, hearing about approximately a dozen new books from peers.
* Teacher suggestions based on my experiences with this program. Detailed tips for implementation are all here.
