I love to partner my students together and watch them dig deep into a story to test their own understanding. This document works well for narrative or expository texts. The first time students are asked to story dig I go through each one of the questions and model with them what a question for that standard/topic would be. The model question sheet works well to help them with this.
This lesson is extremely easy to differentiate. You can provide the model questions for the lower level students, or scaffolded the first time they do the activity. Students at this level just fill in the information from their particular story, characters name and setting, etc. For higher level groups, or a reoccuring lesson, give the blank story dig sheet and allow students to construct their own sentences.
Hopefully your students and you will enjoy this higher order thinking comprehension check. My students did!
