If you are looking for something fun and easy to practice adding with double digit numbers, this is it. Games can be used in small groups, pairs, centers, RTI groups, small group (teacher) instruction, and teams. They can be sent home or used in whole school math events/nights. The games can also be used as an independent practice tool. I often leave them for easy sub activities. Kids love them because they are fun and teachers love them because they are no prep and easy to manage. Also, because of the different levels, addition practice can be differentiated. All you need is 6 sided dice and crayons.
One number is the main focus and when a die is rolled, the player must solve the problem by adding a double digit number to the focus number. It’s a fun way to practice multiple choice problems, eliminate wrong answers, and strengthen mental math skills. Players practice adding double digit numbers with and without regrouping.
Things to know:
*Each kid gets his/her own game board.
*Any color can be used. A player can used a variety of colors if she/he so chooses.
*If playing in pairs or small groups, the player must tell the answer to the group before the answer is colored. If players disagree on an answer, each will have to prove/show how the answer was found.
