Product Rationale:

I decided to create this product after doing research and reading on formative assessments and their numerous benefits for students in the classroom. As educators, the “main thing” is increasing student achievement and learning, thus, this resource aims to increase student accountability and engagement, in order to impact student learning.
This is a perfect companion for a teacher who routinely uses guided math centers/stations. This will enable students to become LEADERS of their OWN LEARNING! They will be able to visually see their areas of strength and weakness.
The way I would use this product would be in conjunction with GoMATH curriculum. Once the “Mid-Chapter” or “Chapter” is completed, the teacher should review answers with the class and students should mark their own paper and complete the bar graphs for each objective, standard, or skill that was covered.
”My Next Steps” is the exciting part of this document! In my classroom, I introduce multiple centers through out the year and students will have a chance to experience these centers before they are able to self-assess their need for it. Therefore, students will have choice, BASED ON their analysis, which center they would like to partake in.
The teacher can group according to the class’s needs and how many centers are available for the lesson.
Lastly, I would save these formative self-assessments in the student’s portfolio to be discussed during Parent/Teacher Nights, conferences, and assessment of interventions and services.
