Product Description
If you are working on same and different with your Preschool, Kindergarten, Autism or Special Education children, this game is for you! Use this simple sorting game to match outlines, or sort and classify dogs! Children need to fine tune their visual discrimination skills to see differences in shape, line, size, color and form. What is your sorting rule? Can you make a pattern? Tell me about it!

Same and Different: Dogs | Grades Preschool to Kindergarten

(8 Dogs x 8 colors)

Also available:Visual Discrimination Sort and Classify - MEGA BUNDLE.

ACTIVITIES
• Use visual discrimination skills to sort the dogs by color, shape, size, direction, or other common features.
• Begin with teacher-directed tasks, or class demonstrations when learning how to sort. (Use one attribute, e.g. color or shape for an initial sort. Then add a second attribute, color and shape, etc.)
• Invite the children to play with the material, and think of their own sorting rule. Be aware of individual differences. Support and encourage the learning. After the sort ask, “What is your sorting rule?” Invite them to share their reasoning, “Tell me why this dog is here.” “Why did you use the bears?” Encourage them to “think about their thinking.” Take opportunities to extend the learning.

CREATE AND EXTEND PATTERNS! (Use sentence strips to provide a visual line for the sequence.) e.g.
• a b a b a b
• aa bb aa bb aa bb
• abc abc abcabc
• abbc abbc abbc
• aabbc aabbc aabbc

OPTIONAL PRINTING
1. Copy one-sided onto cover stock. Copying all of the pages provides “the direction the dog is facing” (for all dogs) as a sorting rule, and two dogs of each color. (p. 4- 11)
• If desired, there is a purple backing sheet provided. (p. 12)
2. Copy alternate pages, (p. 4, 6, 8, 10) to provide one copy of each dog in 8 colors.
• If desired, there is a purple backing sheet provided. (p. 12)
3. My favorite: * Copy double-sided, (p. 4-11) flip on the long edge, to “mix-it-up” a bit. The same dog will be on the back of the card… in the same color, but facing a different direction.

• For better durability, laminate the cards before you cut them apart.

SORTING TRAYS
• Use some of the 8 sorting circles provided.
• Use divided trays from the dollar store.
Paper plates and hula-hoops make good sorting rings.
• As the children gain skills, add a Venn diagram.

Mathematical concepts and language learning… they all overlap!

Note: These sort and classify cards are available in a BUNDLE or as single units.
