This simple Sink or Float Science Pack is designed to be a starting point from which parents can help their child develop the attributes of a scientist, including curiosity!
In completing these simple activities, students will observe, collect materials, make predictions, test their hypotheses, experiment, and communicate the results.
Though this resource has been developed for use during school closures, it could also be used in the classroom.
When used during school closures, I suggest that parents complete Lesson One and Lesson Two (on two different days).
This resource also includes a series of lesson extensions. I recommend asking parents to complete at least one of these with their child. A note is included stating that since students are often motivated by having some control over their own learning, it may be best to discuss these extensions with the child and have him or her choose one (or more) to complete together.
In recognition of the many teachers who are hustling to create materials for students to complete at home, this is offered as a free resource.
I hope you find this Sink or Float pack helpful!
Sincerely, Anne Gardner (National Board Certified in Literacy)
