How often do you ask your students for feedback on how they think the lesson went or how well they understood the concept taught?
Here’s a fun way for students to self reflect and to let you know how they feel about what’s going on in the classroom, plus it can be used for any subject area.
Simply print the page of your choice and cut along the solid lines. Each student then sticks one rectangle of 3 faces onto their page. They then proceed to colour in the face which they feel best represents their learning from that task / activity. The posters have been included as a guideline (with both UK and US spellings plus a blank for you to create your own ideas).
For the younger students, use the larger faces. For the older students, use the smaller faces and also have them write a comment next to the faces.
Then when you go to mark their books, you can see at an instant who found the task too easy, who was comfortable with their level of learning and who needs a bit more attention to master the topic.
This quick and easy activity to be completed at the end of learning sessions gives students the chance to self reflect and assess their own learning and gives the teacher an idea of not only their understanding but also self confidence in appraising themselves.
