This is a great task to give to students to check for understanding DURING a Read Aloud/Think Aloud. As I begin my read aloud think aloud, I encourage students to actively engage in the text using their 'thinking brains' (*see note below). Then, I stop part way through the text and provide my students with this activity to record what they are thinking at that moment about the text.
**Please note- this document is editable so you can change the title/author of the book used in the read aloud, think aloud.
After, the students share all the different things they are thinking. Some may ask questions, others may connect or visualize because we all think differently about the text we read depending on what background knowledge/understandings we bring to the text.
*Please visit my store for a product titled "My Thinking Brain" which includes Visuals and Thinking Stems for the strategies modeled and taught to use during the read aloud.
