To have students understand the difference between universalizing and ethnic religions.
I typically begin discussing religion by comparing universalizing and ethnic religions. Distribute the worksheet that you would like students to work with and provide lecture notes with your discussion.
OPTIONS FOR USE:
FULL LECTURE NOTES:
As you discuss the major world religions in class, you can give students one of these pages to complete for homework. Or, flip the scenario and have them complete the map/charts in class if background knowledge was gained the night before.
SHORT ON TIME?:
I have the lecture notes exposing every other box. This would be a great way to have students engage in the class lecture/discussion so that they can “guess” what is in the opposing box. The worksheet that has arrows is meant for students to “create their own” mix and match that they can later cut and play a game (or just review), using their own notes.
MIX & MATCH GAME:
Either provide students with the complete mix and match clues or with the blank worksheet to first complete with lecture. Then have students cut and right down the center of the paper and around each clue to create a mix and match review. Printing on cardstock is best. Laminate if you plan to use multiple times.
