This activity is meant to help students review their knowledge about the events of the Vietnam War. Students will work in small groups to reconstruct a timeline (from President Truman to President Ford) of events that occurred in Vietnam, from our initial financial involvement to the fall of Saigon. This activity would be used at the end of a unit to help students synthesize all of the information they have learned. The product includes a list of Vietnam actions and events, a blank flowchart for students to fill in (legal size), a key of the correct answers, and a few follow-up discussion questions. Depending on the students/class, teachers can allow the use of notes or have students complete the assignment from memory. I usually tell students they must work from memory for at least the first 10 minutes, which gives me an idea of how well they have retained the information and then I allow them to pull out their notes to fill in what they cannot remember. This activity keeps them engaged, can help you track their progress with the material, and is a great way to review the key elements of the Vietnam War.
