Do you want to get your class into Free Writing, but afraid of sending home a randomly filled, unmarked book at the end of the year? Get your kids to glue this Free Writing information sheet into the front of their books. This also doubles as a parent handout.
Free Writing is giving kids the chance to write whatever they wish without fear of judgement or assessment. It improves creativity and fosters a love of writing.
How do I start Free Writing
Give each child an exercise book and complete a class brainstorm about possible things they could write. You may need to suggest non-traditional forms of writing such as lists, menus and instructions to help them understand they really can write whatever they want. Start off with small amounts of Free Writing time and assure the children you will not mark their work unless they would like you to. If they would like me to read their work, I only provide positive feedback. DO NOT 'CORRECT' IT!
