This product was created to help students understand the similarities between numbers based on the shared place value. Each slide shows 4 numbers. 3 of the numbers all have the same number in the tens or the ones place. The object is to find out which number does not belong.
Students should be encouraged to talk out loud and explain their thinking. For example a student might notice that three of the numbers have a 4 in the ones place, but the 4th number has a 2 in the ones place.
The second slide will show a red X on the number that does not belong. This will allow students to self check.
The third slide shows either the ones or the tens place in a different color, so that students who did not get this correct, could visually see the similarities and differences.
Look for more versions of which one does not belong!
