I wanted something to do with my class on those first days of school that was a little more fun than the standard “getting to know you” games. For this game, all you need are the questions on the following pages and a beach ball. There are two pages: one with numbers through ten and one with numbers through twenty. Use whichever works best for you. Write the numbers (either 1-10 or 1-20) all over the beach ball with a Sharpie. Have the students toss the ball gently (key word here!) to each other. I tell them that whatever number their right thumb lands on when they catch it is the number of question they have to answer about themselves. You can either project the questions on the board or print out a copy for the kids to see. Keep tossing until everyone gets a chance!
Best part about writing numbers on the beach ball instead of the questions themselves: you can use the beach ball for other activities throughout the year, such as having students take turns solving math problems! They solve the number their thumb lands on!
